I am very proud of the fact that my blind father, CW Pedley with the aid of my mother, Lilian Pedley wrote, published and submitted a ballad to celebrate the 200th anniversary of N-O-T-L. They performed it in 1981.
Tune 1
Loyal Village, Butlersburg, Newark,
then Niagara Town, now Niagara on the Lake,
You have had your ups and downs
Rebel forces did attack
Beaten back by Rangers
Battles raging fore and back
All around were dangers
Britain finally agreed
With the thoughts of Haldimand
For the growing of more food
On the West Niagara land
When one year had rolled around
Butler did a census take
Sixteen families he did count
In Butlersburg beside the lake
Many rangers settled here
From the now disbanded corps
Then the town began to form
In seventeen and eighty-four
Capital, then County town
You have been both high and low
Hail Niagara-on-the-Lake
Do you like the status quo?
Ten-score years I've been around
Ten score years of striving
Now in nineteen eighty-one
I am still surviving --- and hope to keep on thriving...
